interesting the dialogue between the acknowledgement that we learn to see through the eyes of our forefathers and the need to break convention to see in new ways.
In the words of cyril connolly, calling for a massacre of convention somewhere in 1935:
“and all novels dealing with more than one generation or with any period before 1918 or with brilliant impoverished children in rectories or with the following regions which i understand are going to be preserved from novelists by The National Trust: The Isle of Wight, The isle of Purbeck, Hampshire, Sussex [..]” (and he really keeps on, see http://img.skitch.com/20100720-bd9kyfd3bssgrd5piya761yrn8.jpg).
On the other side of the coin we have the dialogue between the several ways we learn to see or to write about certain phenomena, and how from that dialogue new forms always keep emerging and humanity keeps on shaping and enriching itself in that voyage. Or as Daniel Blaufuks said in a recent interview:
“Ele diz que um judeu lê um livro com um lápis na mão. Para quê? Para escrever outro livro a partir desse livro. E aqui foi o que aconteceu. Escrevi um livro a partir de outro livro, do Sebald. É uma ideia muito bonita: tudo é transmissão. Tudo vai dar noutra coisa e noutra coisa e noutra coisa. E isso, no fundo, é a história da humanidade. Todas as estórias vão tendo continuidade através das gerações. É o que faz nós sermos seres humanos.
